As reported in the video below real greeting cards are preferred, eCards are Cold, impersonal and often never get noticed in the inboxes of the recipient. However a greeting card received in the mail makes the recipient feel special, and is much more sincere then sending a simple eCard.

Although greeting card sending in Singapore was down 5%, gift sending was up 100%. My guess is the reduction was due to the economic times and the high cost of greeting cards at traditional greeting card stores and not knowing that Send Out Cards is available in Singapore.

There are some “opportunities” out there that have given Multi Level Marketing (MLM) companies a bad name.  Many people have been burned in one way or another and just can’t seem to get that bad taste out of their mouths.  It’s very frustrating to spend time with a prospective distributor only to hear “That sounds like a Pyramid Scheme”…ugh. 

While most are skeptical of joining any business that looks like a pyramid scheme, they do not realize they may already be in one at their current place of work. Let’s take a look at the makeup of most corporations. Almost all corporations have a CEO at the top of the organizational pyramid. The CEO often has 4 to 6 direct reports right under him or her.  Then each of these direct reports have many department heads right under them, and so on and so on right down to the maintenance engineers and mail room staff.

So in drawing up an organizational chart of the corporation you work for – you will notice yourself stuck in the midst of, yes a pyramid.  Yes, I said “STUCK” because the only way you will every get promoted or move up the corporate ladder is when your boss leaves the company or kicks the bucket or moves up because his or her boss left the company or bit the dust.

Now, let’s compare the above scenario to a good MLM configuration.  If you really look beyond the negative, you will realize that network marketing is an upside down pyramid. Where the leaders are at bottom training and giving the newbie’s the tools to succeed, because the only way they make money is when the newbie succeeds.

The distinction between network marketing & an illegitimate pyramid scheme is pretty clear to understand in my option.

Pyramid scheme: Any opportunity where money can only be made by enrolling new distributors into the business is pyramid scheme. These schemes do not have a real merchandise to promote and are just dispersing a new distributor’s money to the people who have joined before them. Such a compensation plan becomes nonviable after a certain time when the pyramid grows. In a larger pyramid scheme the money brought in from new distributors is not enough to maintain the payment structure.

Two Red Flags that scream illegal pyramid scheme are:

1. No real product or service is offered or available.
2. You only make money if you bring in new distributors.

Network Marketing: In legitmate network marketing companies, a person earns money from the distribution of products. It may look like many network marketing companies are making money from new distributors, but this is not the case. As part of your start-up kit with a company, you are given a few products to sample. The commission that you get from the new distributor is actually your part of the commission for the product purchased by the new distributor. To keep the payment structure sustainable most network marketing company’s pay commissions only a few levels above.  So in a legit network marketing company, it will not matter if you got in first or last, you have the same opportunity as everyone else to make money – in most cases you can make more money than the person that introduced you to the business – not the case in a pyramid scheme.

If you can say yes to these questions the MLM Company you are looking at is NOT a pyramid scheme.

Is there a real product or service?
Can you make money by just selling products?

You should also look at companies with at least 3 years of success under their belts – jumping in with a new start up may seem like the way to go, but in a good Multi Level Marketing company it doesn’t matter when you get in – everyone has the same opportunity to make the big bucks.

Is there currently any competition?
